Lightweight shorts can look opaque on a hanger and reveal pocket outlines or underlayers when stretched across a seated body. A home try-on should include lighting, movement and pocket loading.
Use three ordinary lighting positions
Test under the seller’s return conditions with the underwear and top you plan to wear. Fabric colour, weave, fit and lighting all affect the result.
Stand in diffuse daylight, typical room light and a brighter light source behind you. Ask a trusted person or use a camera placed at normal distance; avoid judging only inches from a mirror.
- Front view. Check fly, pockets and upper thigh while standing naturally.
- Back view. Look for underlayer contrast without overstretching the waistband.
- Side view. Observe pocket bags and seam allowances against the fabric.
- Seated view. Sit normally and check where fabric becomes taut.
- Pocket load. Add a phone or keys only if that matches intended use.
Separate opacity from pocket show-through
A garment can remain non-transparent while pocket bags are still visibly outlined. Decide whether the outline itself matters, and whether a bulky item pulls the pocket opening into view.
Compare standing, sitting and pocket visibility
- Can underlayer colour be distinguished? Retest with the planned underwear rather than drawing a broad conclusion.
- Are pocket bags outlined? Observe empty and lightly loaded conditions.
- Does the hem rise when seated? Record coverage without repeatedly pulling it down.
- Does the drawstring remain comfortable? Test tied at the actual wearing tension.

Use the side view to inspect pocket show-through
Use the Men's Breathable Cotton Linen Drawstring Casual Shorts page for current material and size information, then rely on the physical try-on for opacity. Listing photos cannot represent every room and body position.
Write a condition-based verdict
Record the result precisely: suitable in diffuse indoor light with empty pockets, for example. That is more useful than calling an entire fabric category transparent or opaque.
